Roger Anderson Ph.D
– Scientist, Entrepreneur, Evangelist, CEO, Consultant, and Author
Dr. Anderson obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Caltech in 1996. After leaving Caltech, he has been on the business side of science. He has experience in three previous start-ups, twice serving as CEO a combined 6 years. Dr. Anderson managed the $24M Immunobiologicals Division of ICN Biomedicals now MP Biomedicals growing it by sales and acquisition to almost $40 million in less than one year. Dr. Anderson has also served as a consultant to a dozens of companies in the laboratory reagents and diagnostics markets. Dr. Anderson concentrates on the focus of the executive team, industry relationship development, fund-raising, investor management and developing collaborations or acquisitions.
The entrepreneurial urge hit early in his career and has never left. During graduate school, he would compare offerings from various suppliers to find the best item at the best price for the lab. That led to the concept of what was then a novel database driven online purchasing system website for life science products and Anderson Unicom Group (AUG). Under his leadership, AUG grew from a concept to a full-fledged business, competing with much larger companies. After 5 years of operations, AUG like most dot-com companies was no longer viable and the assets were sold.
In 2000, BioCarta, a new San Diego based immunology products company acquired some of the AUG assets and asked him to stay on and, later, to run the operation. Dr. Anderson improved supplier and customer confidence and arranged for additional funding to grow the operation. His greatest strategic accomplishment was to merge with two other entities controlled by the investors to create a larger, stable company, while creating a better corporate culture, decreasing burn rate and increasing sales.
He continues to consult with many early stage companies.
